The Walnut Tele
My goal with this guitar is to build it entirely with wood from previous projects. The main body material is made from Ash and Walnut. I am still collecting wood to complete this build.
The guitar body is made from two pieces of Ash and two pieces of Walnut. The Ash is left over from the circular cut of the wine tasting table. I had a limited amount of Ash to work with which gave me a very asymmetrical glue-up, but that should be expected with a scrap wood project. The Walnut was left over from a cabinet project.
This is going to be a semi-hollow guitar, which is why there are two hollow cavities hidden under the walnut top. I hate to cover up the beautiful figure of the Ash, but luckily the figure on the backside of the guitar is just as beautiful and will still be visible.
I left the Walnut thick on the top because I will be carving the top similar to that of a Les Paul. I am still debating if I should wrap the guitar top with binding. If I were to bind it, I think doing it with brass would look best next to the Walnut. I am also debating adding an f-hole on the forearm rest area or leaving it in the chambered state it is currently in. Other plans include adding humbuckers, a bridge, and a stopbar. I am still collecting scrap wood to build the neck. I will be using Gibson’s 24-3/4 scale length on this guitar. I am essentially trying to build a Les Paul in a Telecaster body.
